My New Website
I’m thrilled to introduce my new web site. It’s not only a re-design of the old site; I also moved it to a completely new web hosting platform – Squarespace. My old site had been on GoDaddy for well over a decade and it was in need of some technical updates that required not only a lot of my time but a fairly hefty financial investment.
The new site is much easier to post changes to and has a significantly easier backend interface. It has the same basic sections as the old site, but newly laid out with a different color scheme and a few additional features.
Please take a few minutes to click around and let me know what you think in the “Comments” section at the bottom of this post.
For techy types, here’s a very brief rundown on what was involved in moving and updating the site:
· The old site was powered by WordPress which is an exceptionally powerful platform. However, some of that power requires plug-ins which is great, but some of them are costly and require frequent updates. Updates sometimes cause problems with WordPress versions and plug-in interoperability. For me, it was just too much hassle.
· The new site is powered by Squarespace. While plug-ins are available, the basic Squarespace capabilities include everything I need such as galleries, contact forms, visitor statistics, newsletters, online sales, and much more – no need to install any more plug-ins. They also provide a free SSL certificate; something GoDaddy wanted an excessive amount to provide.
· My needs for a website are relatively simple, and using Squarespace was just easier to deal with than the GoDaddy/WordPress combination. As they say, however, your mileage may vary. If you’d like to ask me more about my changeover, please fill out the “Contact” form and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
